Website banners for African journey

Berlin, 2004. Before Augustas and I are heading to Africa, we set up a new website, which we aim to use as a travel diary. In order to promote our website among traveller sites, we see the need to create banners of our own. The requirements are simple: different sizes according to website banner standards, and different colors. And the big banners should possibly mirror a feeling of a journey through Africa. Thus, while Augustas continues the programming of our Africa website, I dive into the wonderful world of creating banners for the first time in my life by using Jasc Paint...

Creation of logos

Zaragoza, Spain, 2003. Being member of the Cultural Working Group (CWG) of the European Student Association AEGEE, I am confronted with the task of creating a logo for the new edition of our Cultural and Artistic Magazine. I have been designing simple birthday cards and invitations before, so this is finally a real chance for a more worldly contribution. The only challenge I face is that the only programs I have for accomplishing this task are Power Point and a simple Microsoft Paint. How would that possibly work out? I give it a try. At first I play with different WordArt settings...

Colombia inspires

Colombia, 2007. On the fascinating island of Baru in the North of Colombia I enjoy the beauty of all that is. Life can be so easy, so precious, so special if you just stop doing and start being. Right on the beach I discover several funny things, among which are two empty coconuts, an empty beer bottle, an ice cream stick, an old bottle lid, a dried apple peel, a coral, a piece of wood, and some dried grass fiber. The beach seems to have it all, and like a child I begin to play with my findings. First of all, I love a comparison of the natural, nourishing coconut water with...

Feeling the Wellness

Thailand, September 2010. Staying at Monte Vista Retreat Center, a place for cleansing body and mind, involves different voluntary activities. Among others Augustas and me are asked to revise the center’s new website. While looking through the photo material available I figure little material to add like inspirational content to the website. Photos needed for representing treatments and services offered are near to missing completely. It doesn’t go long until myself and the manager decide to have our own photo shooting, since we have got a reasonably good camera...

An orange a day keeps all worries away

Corozal, Belize, 2006. Sitting in the middle of the jungle in our bush restaurant of The Last Resort, where we are living for a couple of months, I receive an urgent call from my dear friend J. She is in need of a logo that represents the health club she founded with her friends in Luxembourg. They intend to print a t-shirt for each member, which has to be ready a week ahead. Their slogan “An orange juice a day keeps the worries away!” gives me the immediate association with a smiling orange. With the help of Jasc Paint Shop Pro program, which we install on the old...
