Why does a vegan lifestyle attract me?

In January 2005 I decided to become vegetarian. This was due to many travelers friends around me talking about the beneficial healthy aspects of being vegetarian. They all felt more energetic. I could not resist but follow them.

And there I was, starting to prepare wonderful vegetarian dishes. This lasted about four long months, until I supplemented normal milk by soy milk. One months after changing to soy milk I discovered that, wow, I did not have any digesting problems anymore. Fifteen years of daily abdominal pains and stomach cramps finished, I was more than delighted about this discovery. I loved to share this news with my mom and could not believe her reaction: "Oh, then you might have a lactose incompatibility like your father had one." I was missing words in that moment. My mom simply did not relate any problems I had with my father over all this years because this man left us when I was a tiny seven year old. I was so happy to find out about that!

Since then I did not consume any more milk products and I kind of became vegan. Not that I claim to be one, but I am sure it is a worthy way to live. I changed from a steady with illness occupied person into a happy, healthy squirrel. I was hopping around and found more and more interesting food available. With my interest in a vegan lifestyle, and my fond interest in foreign fruits and vegetables, I also discovered wild plants. Those, actually, bring the real nutritions a human needs, make you satisfied with a small amount, and do not destroy your health. Once being into this, I could not stop but wanting to know more.

Right now, on my and Augustas around the world trip, I decided that all the knowlegde I gain about foreign fruits, vegetables, plants, and wild plants, I would like to share with you. Especially, for vegan and vegetarian travelers this might be of interest. For this reason veganbase has been set up. It is not a database which takes the status of being perfect. It is simply a collection I make during the discovery of nutritions which enrich my meals.

I hope you like the idea, and you are welcome to join the world of fascinating non-animal foods! :D When you have any additional information about veggies (fruits, vegetables, legumes, (wild) plants, seeds...) let me know here.
